Teething Begins..

Tuesday, 4 March 2014

For the past few weeks Indiana has discovered her hands, and since then they rarely leave her mouth haha. This along with flushed cheeks, being dribbley, her being more of a grouchy pants and her wanting to chew on everything and anything she can get her hands on, has led us to think she's starting to teeth!

She's only 3 months so we were shocked at how early it has begun, poor baby. But I guess some babies are born with teeth (not that I've ever seen or known anyone who's baby has!). So I just thought I'd post about what we're doing to help her teething.

If she's feeling a bit hot and has especially flushed cheeks we give her a small dose of Calpol. She's allowed 4 x 2.5ml of Calpol a day but we try to give her as little as possible, we don't want to become reliant on it. We LOVE that these days it comes with a syringe as it makes life so much easier.. even if she still spits it out haha.

We have a selection of teething toys that we bought before she was even born. We haven't got too many yet as we didn't think we'd be at this stage so soon, so will definitely be needing more! We have a set of Nuby 'teething keys' which we picked up at our local Asda. We pop them in the freezer so they're icy cold and then let her chew on them. She's only just mastering holding things so we have to hold them for her, but I think she likes how cold they are on her gums.

My favourite teething item I purchased was Sophie La Giraffe. Yes I know every Tom, Dick and Harry has Sophie but that's what actually made me purchase it, and I'm SO glad I did. Sophie is made of rubber so is perfect for little gums to chew on, and is designed so little hands can grab onto it easily. This was actually the first thing she grabbed! She's learnt to hold it and pop it in her mouth and chews on it. Her initial facial expression is a picture, as I think she's still unsure of the taste, but after that she loves it.

Aside from those there isn't much else we do at the moment. I let her chew on my fingers which she finds hilarious. I sit her on my lap holding onto her hands and she lunges for my hands bless her haha. Once she's chomping away she gives me the cheekiest grin I've ever seen, so I'm guessing she enjoys it!

So that's it for now. I'm sure as teeth actually start popping through we'll add more to help her through the process. I hope this has helped some of you with teething babies!
