37 Week Pregnancy Update | Baby #2

19.7.15

Hello full term! I can't believe I'm at this stage already; baby boy really could make his entrance any day now (still don't think it's going to be anytime soon haha), and we are pretty much completely ready! Baby is around 49cm, over 6.5lbs and the size of a honeydew melon - there's lots of melons with these fruit comparisons haha.

I had my 36 week midwife appointment on Monday which went really well. All was ok with my urine, blood pressure (110/60) and my general well being. My bump was measuring a week ahead at 37cm which I was really surprised about; I don't think it's really grown if I'm honest. He was also head down still and to my surprise again 2/5ths engaged! I know this doesn't mean much for second pregnancies, and he's probably popped out by now, but it's still exciting and a step in the right direction.

This week I've had constant strong braxton hicks and pretty intense lighting pain. Not a day goes past now where I don't get a few braxton hicks in a row now. They're still not painful but they really take my breath away and stop me in my tracks. The lightning is bloody painful though haha. I'll just be walking along when it suddenly feels like he's going to fall out.

His movements are still pretty strong which is great. I've noticed he gets hiccups quite a lot too which if I'm honest, are slightly annoying haha. Especially as he seems to get them when I wake up in the middle of the night to wee (which is becoming a routine of around 2am and 5am).

My bags are finally packed and ready to go, and we're going to install the car seat base back into the car this week. The only thing we need to get is the moses basket off of my sister and then we're completely ready. Let the baby eviction plans commence haha!

36 Week Pregnancy Update | Baby #2

12.7.15

How is it just 1 more week until I'm classed as full term?! Thursday was the 9th making it just one more month until my due date, so it's a real countdown in days now (28 days to be exact haha). This week baby weighs almost 6lbs and is around 47cm long - close to the size of a romaine lettuce.

I'm seeing the midwife again tomorrow for my 36 week appointment, so hopefully baby is still head down. He's done a couple more HUGE movements this week which were bloody painful haha. Jack had his hand on my stomach and was laughing at how crazy it was. It was as if he was doing roly polys while also trying to dive out - ouch!

Nothing much is new this week, it's been pretty much exactly the same as last week; tired, uncomfortable, sciatic pain in my right bum cheek/leg, etc. I have noticed my moods have been a bit all over the place, more than usual. Indiana has really been testing my patience, and I've found myself snapping at her a lot more often. I hate doing it and as soon as it's happened I've got upset and feel awful. We've been enjoying lots of snuggles though and still gives 'baby' lots of kisses which I'm really going to miss.

I've finally purchased the last bits for my hospital bag, so I'll be packing that during the week - keep an eye out for the post. I definitely feel more relaxed than I did last time (there will be no ironing of the baby clothes haha), and I don't feel in a rush to get things done. I'm just enjoying the last bit of time with just Indiana before baby arrives, and making the most of her nap times haha.

With both my hen do, and Jack's stag do out of the way now it really is just countdown for baby. You're free to come whenever you like now little man!

34 Week Pregnancy Update | Baby #2

28.6.15

34 weeks pregnant and I feel like a gigantic, hot, and absolutely exhausted whale haha! Baby boy now measures around 45cm and is around 5lbs (size of a cantaloupe melon)! I can definitely feel his movements have changed from pokes and kicks to huge rolls and whole body movements - he is constantly sticking limbs out left, right and centre too haha.

This week I have really felt heavily pregnant and I've really slowed right down. Monday I had my first nap this whole pregnancy with Indiana, and it was amazing! I think it's going to become a regular occurrence from now on. Sleep at night is becoming worse, but I think that's more down to it being SO hot at the moment.

I've noticed a change in my appetite this week too. Now I'm so big there's not much room for huge portions. I've started just having smaller meals more regularly which seems to be working better for me.

Walking for any longer than 5 minutes leaves me really out of breath now too - I'm definitely waddling now haha. I'm really grateful for Indiana's pram to be able to lean on and it seems to make me ache less. The lightning pains are increasing when I walk as well - it honestly feels like he's going to fall out sometimes!

Last night I felt HUGE movements from baby. All week he's definitely been transverse and in my ribs as I could feel, and see him poking out the sides. My ribs felt bruised where he was so high up and it was so tricky to get comfortable. Just comparing my bump from a picture I took Friday to today he definitely appears to have dropped! I'm really intrigued to see how he's laying now at my midwife appointment tomorrow to see for sure.
I've now purchased a few bits for my hospital bag, and actually washed his first size clothes! I'd love to get some advice on dressing a summer baby though. As Indiana was born at the very end on November I'm used to a winter baby!

32 Week Pregnancy Update | Baby #2

14.6.15

I think this week has gone even quicker than usual; I really think finishing work has been the reason. Monday was my last day and I'm SO glad to be finished and able to relax (as much as you can with an 18 month old haha). Baby boy is around 42cm long this week and weighs around 3.75lbs - the size of a jicama apparently!

Sunday (the day I turned 31 weeks pregnant) I experienced the worst braxton hicks EVER! There were super painful and I had to have a long hot bath to get rid of them - the only reason I knew they weren't actual contractions! My midwife agreed that's what they were and said it was probably a combination of that and his position, and said I definitely need to take it easy from now on.

I saw my midwife on Wednesday and all was really well with baby. He's still head down, although she said he's laying slightly more across than straight down. He was being a monkey and wouldn't let her get a clear heartbeat, although you could hear it in the background (148bpm). My belly measured 31.5cm which was perfect as was all the other checks.

The only negative of the appointment was that my blood results came back saying I have low iron - so I'm not just tired, I'm anaemic too! She said this could also be the reason for my breathlessness. She said it's just on the border for tablets, so for now I'm just to boost it myself with an iron rich diet and to take spatone or something similar.

Apart from that all is well and I'm just experiencing the normal symptoms you'd expect for being this pregnant. Tired, achy and needing the loo constantly haha. I feel huge now and even my midwife agreed I'd had a growth spurt - and proceeded to tell me he felt a 'good size' while giving me a look haha. Get your guesses in now for his birth weight; we're all thinking 9lb+!

29 Week Pregnancy Update | Baby #2

24.5.15

It's so strange that sometimes I still forget I'm pregnant, even though I'm 29 weeks today - pretty close to the 'heavily pregnant' stage I'd say haha. Baby boy is apparently the size of an acorn squash and now weighs close to 2lbs and measures around 39cm long. I have a feeling he's a bit bigger than that though if his sister's birth weight is anything to go by (8lb 4oz not overdue!).

I had my midwife appointment this week where I was 28 weeks and 3 days. Is it just me who gets excited for these appointments haha? It was lovely to see her, and even nicer that even though this is my second pregnancy, she's seeing me for the same amount as if it was my first.

Everything was perfect; his heartbeat was 144bpm, my blood pressure was 108/72 and my urine was fine. She had a feel and confirmed he's head down with him bum sticking under my ribs on the right (although I'm not sure if he's turned since then). She took my bloods which Indiana really enjoyed watching haha and I've got my whooping cough jab booked for Thursday. She measured my bump for the first time and I'm so happy it's measuring perfectly at 28cm!

Now I know he's head down I can definitely feel it. I've been getting 'lightning' type pains throughout the week which I did not miss haha. His bum has been really pushing against my skin too and it's quite painful (you can feel him if you touch my bump!).

Only 5 more days left at work now although I'm feeling done already. After a 9-7 shift on my feet all day yesterday I had really bad pains in my bump, and my feet were killing me! I'm back at work today but think it's definitely time to ask for a chair as I just cannot do it anymore.

Next week we'll be on the proper countdown and I can't believe it. We are so relaxed this time and should probably start buying things and thinking of names!
